Classes end for Winter Quarter

We are approaching the end of Winter, and I have given students the opportunity to share what stood out for them in yoga class this winter.  I am so grateful for my students, and for their willingness and openness to learn about yoga.  May the long time sun shine upon them!!!

  1. I wanted to thank you for teaching such a great class. I am a high stress person, so I was looking for ways to stay in the moment and calm down a little. I noticed after I was done with your class every other day I felt a lot calmer and more in touch with myself. I also felt proud of myself for accomplishing something for the day. Because of your influence I am going to continue doing yoga because I have discovered that yoga is something I definitely enjoy. Thanks, Katelyn Sanders

  2. I learned a lot about yoga and do want to contiue it. I had always wanted to do yoga but did not take the class until this quarter and I am glad I did. I really started to notice a difference in my flexibility on the health in the times when I was able to make several classes in a row. I have also tried to practice some of the breathing and noticing the body techniques when doing other things and it has helped I feel.

  3. This yoga class made this quarter bearable. It was amazing to have an escape from my everyday life! I loved being able to have a place where I could relax and focus on something that would enrich my life in a positive manner. My flexibility greatly improved. I could see differences after only a few classes. Thanks to this class I now know that yoga is something that I enjoy doing! Thank you for bringing such an awesome activity into my life! I am looking forward to doing advanced yoga with you sometime in the future!

  4. Kristin, I so enjoyed my sessions with you this quarter. You have helped me bring attention to my body and also accept it for everything that it is (with no judgement- positive nor negative). I just finished the beginning course with you and look forward to taking level II with you next quarter. My body is more flexible and I have noticed a considerable amount of strength difference. I'd like to say my mind has expanded as well, from the meditation you've instructed and the movies you recommended outside of class (I really enjoyed the one I've watched so far). So thank you for helping me and my body advance! I look forward to the continuation next quarter.

  5. I had never taken any sort of Yoga class before this one but I felt like trying new things this quarter. For me, yoga classes always seemed to vary between feeling like just a warm up before an actual excersize to extremely relaxing to actually a pretty tough work out that kicked my ass sometimes.
    I was mostly doing this class just for the flexibility aspect of it and not so much for the mediation/relaxation aspects of it and in that aspect this class helped a lot. I didn't notice how much it helped until I took a fitness test and was able to stretch for 8 inches instead of the 2-3 inches I used to be able to do back in high school.
    I feel this was a beneficial class and while I probably didn't feel as amazingly fantastic as I was expecting to feel about it (my hopes were probably too high) I'm still glad I took this class and would be willing to take another yoga class in the future.

    I have taken very few yoga classes prior to taking this class. I have however been a competitive dancer and gymnast my whole life. Doing these two sports gave me great flexibility and body awareness. Coming into this class I was excited because I figured I would be able to really cater to my flexibility but I learned so quickly that being flexible is only a good thing in yoga if you know how to harness it. There are so many times where I could have stretched further but was learning the right posture or how to control my flexibility. I spent most of my time in this class relaxing. I have a highly demanding schedule and to come into a dimly lit room and just breathe and stretch was a great vacation from my everyday routine. I have taken some other yoga classes where I found it really hard to relax based on the instructors voice yet Kristin has a great soft tone and I am not sure if that is something that other people noticed but she had a relaxing quality about her. I would love to continue taking yoga after the experience I had with Kristin.

  7. This is my very first yoga class I've ever taken, and I have to say, I quite enjoyed it! I definitely felt the connection between mind and body. The stretches and various yoga positions we went over in class definitely helped me gain a little flexibility. We stretched properly and safely, and it was really relaxing! It was a good time to focus on myself, and not worry about the past or future, but just focus on the NOW which I tend to have problems with. Definitely interested in taking another yoga class from you in the future!

  8. I am so thankful for yoga and for such a helpful leader like Kristen Harper. This is my second class with her and I cannot see choosing another leader as an easy task. Each day we are challenge and encouraged by her to to our best and listen to our bodies.
    Yoga is helpful for me in more than just physical aspects. It's helps me find myself and reflect on my thoughts. Yoga helps me to concentrate on what is important and how to achieve it. Through breathing techniques and meditation I can find my spirit and emotions and be in control of them.
    Yoga has given me great physical benefits as well. I have more tone and better balance in my body. My back is bothering me less often and stretching has increased my flexibility and awareness of my body.
    I am learning to enjoy and incorporate yoga into my every day life. By performing sun salutations in the morning I am able to prepare for the day. In the evening relaxing poses and meditation bring relief from every day stresses. In each mood and time of day I find yoga to be a benefit to my life. This quarter I have learned to make it a part of me.
